This class is required for graduation. Students may substitute full-season participation in a USHAA-sanctioned sport for this credit. This course is designed to develop skills and techniques in a variety of team and individual sports as well as improvement in personal fitness.
Students taking this course through through Canyons Online during the summer must have their grades (Q1 & Q2) posted to receive credit for this class.

Lifetime Fitness

This class is required for graduation. No other sport or class may be used to satisfy this credit.
This course is designed for continued improvement of physical fitness. The course content includes an understanding of the components of fitness, i.e., heart lung fitness, strength, flexibility, muscle endurance, weight control/nutrition, and stress management. This class is required for graduation.
Sophomores interested in testing out of Lifetime Fitness should sign up for the course during online registration but indicate that you plan take the test on your course registration card with an alternate course choice written on the card.

This course is a continuation of Weight Training 1 emphasizing further development of programs that develop body tone, muscle strength, and physical condition.

This course is intended for students participating on the JHS football team.
This is an advanced weight-training course, which offers instruction in heavy power lifting routines. This course stresses strength, weight gains and flexibility for injury prevention and agility. The course is designed to offer a higher level of proficiency and more in-depth instruction in weight training. Training principals are taught and students learn how they impact a lifetime of physical fitness. Students learn that weight training is a fitness activity with many benefits, including improving personal health, increasing longevity, and quality of life through the reduction of stress. Through focused instruction, students are able to identify the benefits and dangers of various dietary supplements such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, power drinks, steroids, and performance enhancing drugs.

This class focuses on structural alignment, increase of strength and flexibility. It will deepen student's awareness of breath and its role in generating energy and stamina in one's mind and body. It will also incorporate techniques for stress relief, enhance one's physical performance and aid in sports preparation in teaching students how to connect breath, organ systems, physiology and anatomy.

The NNDCC Program is designed to teach leadership, good citizenship, military orientation, and physical fitness. This is accomplished through a broad-based academic program that includes leadership, oceanography, basic seamanship, naval history, first aid, sea power, maritime geography orienteering, and more. Academics are balanced with a practical leadership development program designed to build self-discipline and self-confidence. A variety of extracurricular activities provide additional opportunities for students to develop their self-confidence and put their leadership skills to practical use. These include orienteering, drill, and physical training. The following ongoing activities are conducted throughout the year and give students the chance to compete against NNDCC/JROTC students from throughout Utah: Academic Team, Naval Drill Team, and Naval Color Guard.

The focus of this class is on creativity and learning how to perform. Students will not be required to dance by themselves for performances. Expanding on the dance basics learned in Dance 1, Dancers will expand their knowledge in dance, strength, flexibility, choreographing, and different styles. The focus of this class is on creativity, expanding your abilities and performing. Students generally perform in Dance Concerts, and Jordan's Best Dance Crew. (Performances and rehearsals outside of the regular school day MAY be required and constitute a portion of the grade)

The Hip Hop/Urban Dance style stems mainly from hip-hop and street dance styles (house, funk, pop, lock, and breaking) and also draws inspiration from other dance styles, such as: jazz, tap, African, Bollywood, and other cultural styles. It allows dancers from different backgrounds, personalities, and dance training to freely interpret different types of music, integrating different dance styles to create their own choreography. This unique class will focus on the styles of dance not typically taught in the dance classroom, as well connect students to their own cultural dance roots.

Learn how to do both Standard and Latin ballroom dances. No experience needed. Learn the basics of Ballroom dancing – steps, rhythms, technique and how to dance with a partner. Performances and rehearsals outside of the regular school day may be required and constitute a portion of the grade.
